Tim & Liz Hore extend a warm welcome to you to join them at the White Hart Hotel, Modbury – a traditional pub with traditional values! Dating from the time of the Domesday Book, Modbury is a thriving community between Dartmoor and the sea, in the South Hams area of Devon.

The White Hart Hotel is a great St Austell pub situated in the heart of this fantastic old town, and reflecting ‘old Modbury’ charm. With a wood burning stove in the bar in the winter, and cosy traditional seating – the White Hart Hotel beckons you in to sit, relax and enjoy the good company of friends old and new. In the summer months, windows are opened to lead out onto a cobbled terrace where you can relax in the shade and enjoy a cool drink. Serving fabulous St Austell ales, a good variety of lagers and cider, wines from around the world and a huge range of soft drinks and beverages – you will find something for every taste. Our food is sourced from local ingredients where possible and we offer great value food, cooked freshly and presented beautifully. Comedy and Music nights are a frequent occurrence at the White Hart, along with the occasional Curry Buffet Night and ‘Guest Chefs'.

Accommodation

Here at the White Hart Hotel, Modbury we have 5 fabulous bedrooms – all quirkily named after local farms and areas. We have a choice of single, twin or doubles, all beautifully furnished with televisions, hair-dryers, tea & coffee making facilities. All the rooms have en- suite shower rooms, and you will be offered the choice of a Continental or full English Breakfast.

Bar

The White Hart Hotel has returned to its roots of being a great pub! With a wood burning stove in the colder months, lots of really comfy seating areas and the daily papers always available – the White Hart Hotel is just the place to spend a couple of relaxing hours. A cobbled courtyard, cool and shaded is waiting for you to sit and enjoy a cold drink when we have those hot summers day. As we are a St Austell pub you know you can now be assured of fantastic ales – with favourites such as Tribute, Proper Job and an exceedingly drinkable IPA being available. Other great ales from St Austell will be available throughout the year, and alongside them will sit the equally fabulous Rattler Cider from Cornwall – a cider with a lot of attitude! Draught Lagers and Guinness are available as well as a wide range of bottled drinks and a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks. We have an extensive range of wines from around the world and most of them available by the glass and in three sizes – Small (125ml), Medium (175ml) and our famous ‘Friendly’ (250ml) size….. so tastes and sizes to suit everyone. Some really excellent sparkling wines and Champagnes are available for that occasion when you want something just a little bit more special.

We also serve the most aromatic and tasty coffee…… why not pop in and have a great coffee or cappuccino and indulge yourself with a slice of cake to go with it? We love having children in our pub, and we have colouring books and pens to help them have a good time whilst you relax. A lollipop might even be offered to the very best behaved children! As dog lovers ourselves we very much welcome dogs in the bar of the White Hart Hotel – a jar of tasty doggy treats sit on the bar, so that your dog enjoys their visit to us as much as you do.

Food

Here at the White Hart Hotel we have returned to great traditional pub food – fresh ingredients, locally sourced where possible and cooked to perfection and all at great value prices.  In the lunch hours you can savour sandwiches made with  fresh bread from the local bakery – with fillings from our own luscious home baked Hams, free range Eggs, excellent  Cheddars and other wonderful tastes. All our sandwiches are served with a colourful salad garnish and a ‘pinch’ of Chips. 

If sandwiches aren’t to your taste we also do Cheesy Chips and our own recipe ‘Marmite Chips’…….. cooked to our own secret recipe!  From our main menu we want you to enjoy good pub  staples like fabulous Steak in Ale Pies, wonderful Grills and  Steaks, excellent homemade Curries, Chilli’s and  Lasagne’s. 

Our Beer Battered Cod and Chips and Fish Pies with Cheesy topping reflect wonderfully the flavours of the sea so close to us.  For dessert’s you can never be sure what scrumptious offerings will be available – it  may be classic oat topped fruit Crumble, or Chef’s own Rice Pudding made with Cream  – or maybe Chocolate Mousse………. but whatever we have on our blackboards, you can  be assured that they will all be lovingly home-made.  Our menu’s change regularly but you can always be sure of great quality, superb tastes and excellent value for money!

Function Room

The White Hart Hotel is fortunate to boast one of the largest function rooms in the South Hams. Referred to as the Assembly Rooms, you could hold your celebrations here secure in the knowledge that you will be in one of the finest function rooms possible, with great food, drinks and fantastic service! Suitable for parties of around 150 if for an informal event or party, or around 70 if seated at round tables for a more formal occasion. Alternatively if you want to run a corporate event or a conference, then we can seat around 90 with the seats in a ‘Theatre’ setting. We can provide overhead projector and flip charts. A large fully stocked bar is adjacent to the Assembly Rooms with an additional large space for guests to mingle. All functions are individually quoted for – as we believe that every celebration or function is special, therefore, we don’t operate a ‘menu choice’ for you to choose from.

You would always remember your wedding celebrations in a room with beautiful brass chandeliers, crisp white clothes and sparkling glasses – with anything from a finger buffet to a sparkling 5 course meal. Just discuss your requests for that perfect day with us, and we won’t fail to delight you! Or maybe an ‘English Tea’ with Jelly and Cake would be what your child and their friends would like for a Birthday treat?? Or a Cheese and Wine party for the grownups? You tell us what you would like and you can be confident that we will endeavour to make your wishes come true – and at reasonable prices as well.

The White Hart Hotel is very close to the A38 and about 20 minutes either from Dartmoor or Plymouth, so ideal for walkers exploring Dartmoor and the stunning countryside, or as a stopping point before going on to Cornwall or the Continent from Plymouth.
