The Barrel O' Beer
A warm welcome awaits you from the Hunt family. Whether on holiday, a weekend break, living locally or just out for a drive, we believe that people deserve that bit more than just a pub. We pride ourselves on our traditional values of hospitality and customer care. Making the most of the beautiful countryside we’re set in, we use local seafood, Devon meat and local game (when available). Our chef, who worked in high-class hotels and restaurants around the world, gives our regularly changing menu a taste of the Mediterranean and a hint of world cooking. We only use the best ingredients available and try to look after our customers in a way which represents how we ourselves would like to be treated, with an emphasis on details, which will make your visit to the Barrel memorable for all the right reasons.

Dining
We use fresh local fish and seafood from the Lyme Bay area, supplied by Just Fish of Seaton and The Exmouth mussel company of Exmouth. Our meat is all West Country free range, traditionally reared from local farms, supplied by Complete Meats of Axminster. We always have a vegetarian option, which changes regularly. We try to use as much organic and locally grown produce as possible. Supporting our local economy is high on our agenda.
Special Occasions
We hold several gourmet events through the year to mark special occasions. These include Valentine's Day, St. George’s Day, Easter, End of Season, Christmas and we finish off with a ten course menu on New Year’s Eve.
The Bar
In the bar you will find a variety of drinks to suit every taste. We have a wide range of whiskies, liqueurs, spirits and soft drinks available in front of an open fire.
Real Ales
The Barrel o’ Beer is a Free house offering the ever popular Devon Glory from the award winning Exe Valley Brewery, as well as other popular ales such as London Pride, Timothy Taylor and Gale’s HSB. We also stock guest ales from time to time.
Wine
Our wine list includes a fine Devon wine and wines from the New World, supplied by Christopher Piper of Ottery St. Mary.

About Us
Geoff and Roberta Hunt have been in the pub and hotel business for over forty years. Geoff, a remarkable gentleman well over retirement age, has a personality and energy you will love and never forget, and always gives a warm and friendly welcome.
More Than Just A Pub
Roberta does the administration and coordinates all aspects of the business with Luke, who trained as a chef at Exeter College and gained experience in Michelin Star restaurants and hotels as a chef and front of house, now provides a welcome to the guests and helps in the smooth running of the business. |
