Plymouth Gin

Blackfriars Distillery, the home of Plymouth Gin since 1793, is the oldest working gin distillery in the country and is situated in the heart of the historic port city of Plymouth. It is located within the Barbican, the historic ‘old quarter’ of the city, close to the harbour waterfront.
Blackfriars Distillery, one of the oldest buildings in Plymouth and a Grade 11* listed building, is now home to an extensively renovated Visitor Centre which provides the following :
A guided tour, which includes a tasting of the range, provides fascinating insights into the history of gin and the special ingredients and production process which has made Plymouth Gin a unique, award winning, premium gin now exported around the world.
A cocktail lounge, The Refectory, which lies in the oldest part of the building, a medieval hall dating back to 1431. The Refectory has a stunning wooden vaulted ceiling and is surely the ultimate place to enjoy an exquisite-tasting cocktail.
Drinks available include Plymouth Gin’s mix of classic and contemporary cocktails such as the Gimlet, the Singapore Sling and, most famously, the Martini. The Refectory also offers a great selection of wines, juices and, of course, teas and coffees.
The Barbican Kitchen Brasserie from the Tanner brothers, has an exciting, vibrant feel. It’s contemporary décor was designed by award-winning restaurant designer Shaun Clarkson. The cool, funky informality combines with the centuries old building to create a dining experience that is unique in Plymouth. It specialises in the kind of food you can eat every day. Classic and continental dishes utilising the finest West Country produce and offering real customer choice, revitalised by the Tanner brothers.
Tours are available seven days a week throughout the year. For further details please telephone as follows :
