Bovey Castle

Bovey Castle is history, excitement, glamour and adventure

Where else can you wear your Hunter wellies at 8am, golf spikes at 3pm and Manolo Blahniks for dinner. But while we offer our guests luxury and indulgence, this is not a stuffy hotel where you can’t sit on the furniture or let your kids enjoy themselves. Bovey Castle is a place where you can live out your dreams, then put your feet up.

Luxurious hospitality

Bovey Castle has remained loyal to the vision of subtle grandeur and understated elegance upon which it was founded, when it was built in 1907 as a country house retreat.

The hotel features 64 uniquely-appointed rooms, which share views of the dramatic Dartmoor countryside or perfectly-manicured grounds of the estate. The public areas of the hotel enjoy unrivalled views and the sophisticated service of the hotel’s staff.

Guinevere, a baby owl sits at reception daily and welcomes guests will her silent stare. Children collect eggs from the hotel chickens for breakfast, feed the trio of ferrets or watch owls and hawks hop across the hotel lawns during the daily falconry display.

Tucked away within the castle gardens and very close to the main hotel, 14 private three-bedroom lodges make ideal accommodation for families and friends staying together, as well as an ideal alternative for those seeking total peace and quiet or a longer stay at Bovey Castle. All the hotel facilities and housekeeping services are still available for your use, giving you all the benefits of Bovey Castle and all the independence you desire too.

Our superb kitchen works its magic with fresh, local ingredients delivered daily from all over the area - with fish from Brixham, lamb from Launceston and finest beef from native Dartmoor cattle - to create superb dishes to delight you with an attention to detail to make them the best they can.

Roger Olsson has joined the hotel as its new executive chef after more than a decade of cooking and fine dining at some of the most-acclaimed London restaurants. His expertise will preside over two new innovative dining experiences that will offer unashamedly outstanding cuisine.

The Edwardian Grill is our main dining experience, with a seasonally changing menu which makes the very best of the finest local ingredients and accompanied by the finest wines from our superb cellar.

Our informal;

Castle Bistro offers a menu throughout the day from coffee and pastries to dinner in a relaxing atmosphere.

Afternoon tea is the most civilised and underrated treat of the day, and a Bovey speciality: scones and sandwiches, homemade cakes and fine teas served in china cups. This Bovey Castle favourite is best enjoyed in front of a roaring fire or, in the summer months, on the terrace overlooking the castle's gardens.

Start your married life in the most romantic location, against the breathtaking backdrop of beautiful Dartmoor National Park and the English countryside at its most dramatic. Bovey Castle is without doubt a truly magical place and an idyllic location for your wedding, complemented by a dedicated team of wedding co-ordinators.

Bovey Castle is a family-friendly hotel, offering luxury holiday accommodation in Devon for parents with children of all ages. This wonderful estate is like a huge playground, with activities designed to give everyone a great time out in the beautiful Dartmoor National Park.

Parents can relax while their young children are well looked after by qualified staff at the Playroom, which has exciting games and creative activities planned every day. Bovey Rangers offers an action-packed timetable for our 7 -14 year old guests.

We welcome the tiniest guests and all facilities needed for baby care are available. Babysitting services can be arranged in advance, to ensure parents can enjoy a relaxed evening during their stay.

The Old Course at Bovey Castle is a challenging and beautiful 18-hole championship golf course, designed in 1926 by JF Abercromby, one of the finest British golf course designers of the Golden Era.

Designed to rival its sister courses at Gleneagles and Turnberry, this course has been described as an experience of golf never to be forgotten, presenting the pure challenge of golf to professional and amateur alike.

  • At just 6303 yards, golfers should not consider the Old Course a simple task as Bovey Castle puts a precedence on accuracy, with many tee and approach shots crossing a variety of hazards.
  • The Old Course’s par three 3rd, surrounded by water on three sides, is matched only by the most famous hole at Bovey Castle – the par four 7th, with the short tee shot evading water on the right and left sides.

The perfectly-manicured greens of the Old Course are absorbed into the surrounding wilderness of Dartmoor National Park, with the River Bovey meandering intrusively down the right side on the approach to the green.

The hotel’s championship golf course has become one of England’s finest greens in recent years, with a wide range of activities – cider and sloe gin making, archery, quad biking, hunting and our own holistic spa, to name a few – for those looking for high-octane or lazy thrills to pass the afternoon.

The spa at Bovey Castle is a sanctuary tucked away from the bustle of modern life. Echoing the tranquillity and therapeutic flow of the River Dart, our bespoke spa experiences have been created to relax, revive and restore the body and spirit.

Our dedicated team of therapists share a wealth of knowledge and experience, encouraging a respect and understanding of the body that is both rare and valuable.

Business and teambuilding

Business, the Bovey Castle way, is morning coffee on a sunny terrace or a round of golf, before a focused meeting about the company’s year ahead. Then, when the day's work is done, a swim or a little relaxing massage from one of our Elemis trained therapists in the spa.

We specialise in residential conferences, teambuilding, incentives, board meetings and private functions. Accommodation will be in our wide selection of bedrooms, or for the company meetings or parties, we can also offer our three-bedroom estate lodges.
